This Training Manual is developed to help you with your flight training to become a
private pilot. All the required training exercises are included and clearly explained in a
colorful, highly visual, concisely written format. We also highly recommend this manual for licensed pilots to refresh and maintain their pilot skills, for currency training, checkout and proficiency checks.
You will learn to fly in a Piper Warrior II or Piper Archer III (ICAO code P28A) respectively abbreviated as Warrior and Archer. We have 3 Pipers in our fleet, PH-VHK, PH-VHP and PH-CJC. All our Pipers are approved for VFR day and night time operations. The
PH-CJC (Piper Archer III) is also IFR equipped.
Preface
The aircraft category of both the Warrior and Archer are Single Engine Piston SEP (land). This is also the name of the class rating which can be found on your license after you have passed your Skill-test.
Each aircraft is configured with 4 seats and 1 or 2 bagage areas.
The maximum take-off weight is for the Warrior 1055 kg (916 kg utility) and for the Archer, 1160 kg (970 kg utility). The total weight includes the pilot, passenger(s), fuel, bagage and the aircraft itself. You should never exceed this weight during flight training and when you fly with family or friends, once fully licensed.
The Warrior is fitted with a Lycoming engine rated at 160 and the Archer with a 180
Horse Power at 2700 RPM. The four cylinder engine is normally aspirated, direct drive, air-cooled, horizontally opposed, carburator equipped.
The aircraft features a fixed pitch propeller with 2 blades. Other characteristics are:
Low wing
Cruise speed 105 KIAS
Fuel consumption approx. 10 usg/hrs (37 lt/hrs)
Total fuel capacity 189 liter (182 liter usable)
Intentional spins are not approved by the manufacturer and are forbidden by
Vliegschool Hilversum (VSH). Banking is allowed up to 60º maximum.
Because the characteristics are almost the same for both types, we have released the Training Manual as a Warrior version. The differences are explicitly indicated.
In all circumstances, the Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) and Checklist as found in the flight bag are leading.
Even though you are used to fly the Piper aircraft, Radio Navigation lessons should be flown on our PH-VHY (Cessna). This is our only aircraft that is equip-ped with all necessary Radio Navigation equipment (like ADF and DME). To prepare yourself for these lessons.
You should use this Training Manual together with the practical module of our Learning Management System (LMS) “All you need to fly”. In this online
environment you will find the necessary in-depth information and details of flight preparation and execution, such as spreadsheets, calculations, quizes, useful tips and references to various sites. Together with this Training Manual, Checklist, Pilot Operating Handbook and Supplements (EPUB), this forms a very important knowledge base for your training as a student pilot and as a licensed pilot.
